Old Standard Wood Web Promo

I'm very excited about this latest web promo produced for Old Standard Wood of Fulton, MO. We did a relatively lengthy shoot over several days time throughout last year, and numerous videos are going to come out of the footage. This is the first finished promo from the shoot and features some exciting camerawork that I'm really proud of. As you watch the promo, notice the "floating camera" effect that is utilized in many of the shots. To achieve this look, we utilized the large Caterpillar Telehandler that you see moving logs in the video. The machine has very sophisticated hydraulics and a boom arm that extends up to 30 feet in the air! Needless to say, I was perched on the end of the arm, way up in the air, camera rolling, and loving every minute of it! I'm very proud of how this promo came out, and look for several other videos from the same session in the coming weeks.

Ending 2011 tonight with a video shoot at Columbia, MO's own Whiskey Wild Saloon. 2000 people and a mechanical bull? Sounds like an interesting shoot to me...

'Tis The Season

Christmas season is officially upon us, and I filmed my first Christmas program of the year last Friday night. The program was put on by the kids of Precious Hearts Learning Center from here in Columbia, and they did a super job! (The Grinch even made a surprise appearance...)

Next week, the Christmas fun continues at Christian Chapel Academy, also here in Columbia. This will be my fourth year producing videos for the school, and they always put on a great program!

Doc Shoot in South Carolina

We headed east last week for a very cool documentary project we're working on in South Carolina. Derek, my usual right hand man, assisted me in the shoot, and we also enlisted the help of a South Carolina local named Alex Frank. We shot for three days, and surprisingly, everything went super smooth. (Considering that I planned everything from about 1000 miles away...) Anyway, here's some production shots from the shoot.

A Digital HQ Milestone...

Tomorrow marks a milestone for Digital Headquarters. In the morning, we'll be hitting the road for Columbia, South Carolina to begin shooting our first feature length documentary film. This has been a personal goal of mine for a long time, and tomorrow is the first step towards achieving that goal.

The cameras are packed, the tank is full, and the highway awaits. Pictures and updates from the road will be coming, so stay tuned...

Law Lecture Shoot

The law lecture that I recorded was done locally here in Columbia at the University of Missouri Law School. The DVD's in the mail, and I'm moving on to other projects. Headed to beautiful Shelter Gardens here in Columbia, MO for a wedding shoot this afternoon. The sun is shining and the fall colors are out in full force; it's a great day for a wedding! Delta Sigma Phi Dedication

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of capturing some great events at the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity house on the MU campus. These guys have put a ton of work into their new house and invited alumni, family, and friends this weekend for a house dedication. The place looks amazing!

Following the house tours and dedication, we headed over to the Alumni Center for the fraternity's luncheon and awards ceremony. A big thanks to the gentleman of Delta Sigma Phi for letting me capture their day. It was great seeing the new house, and it's always good to visit the University of Missouri campus, i.e. my old stomping grounds...

I've been slowly updating the Digital HQ website a bit over the last week or so. Check it out if you haven't seen it in a while. The basic setup is the same, but I added a bit of new text and quite a few new images to spruce up things a bit. Above are a couple of the new images I used. I've also been busy shifting into wedding season mode. I've got my new camera tested, set up, and ready to go. Wedding shoots in Fulton and Columbia in the next three weeks!

Fresh out of the editing studio, here is the latest Digital HQ Wedding Promo. It's composed entirely of weddings we shot and produced in 2010, which is a group of films I'm very proud of. (Please excuse the low resolution; I didn't want people to have to sit around and wait an hour for the video to load!) Also, I must give a shout out to Fallen Flag, a great rock band who provided the song for the promo. They've got a lot of great songs, and this one in particular fit the mood of my video quite well, I believe. Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Jack Daniels Studio No. 7 Project

Last November, I interviewed and shot a video with the band Manchester Orchestra at the Blue Note here in Columbia, MO. This project was in conjunction with The Hive, a Toronto, Canada based production company. Anyway, my video is now up and streaming on the Jack Daniels Studio No. 7 website, www.jdstudiono7.com. Check it out; there's a lot of cool artists interviewed on the page. Plus, the editing crew at The Hive did a fabulous job assembling all of the footage. If you prefer, you can also find these videos on the Jack Daniels Facebook Page. This was a very cool project to be a part of, and one we were very excited about. Wedding Video Update

I just delivered my latest wedding video to Lance and Emily, a great couple who I had the honor of working with last month in St. Louis. Their wedding was beautiful and I was super happy with how the finished video came out. Very cinematic, very emotional... All that good stuff. Music Video Weekend

Busy event video weekend here at Digital Headquarters, and the theme of the weekend is music. I had the pleasure of shooting a Caleb Rowden concert last evening at Christian Chapel Auditorium here in Columbia, MO. Caleb is a very accomplished singer/songwriter and put on a great show last night. Very cool to be a part of. Here's a link if you want to find out more about Caleb and his music.

Tomorrow, I've got a shoot lined out at the Blue Note, Columbia's premiere live music venue. I'm working in conjunction with a production company out of Toronto, Ontario called The Hive. Listen Up!

Headed to Kahoka, MO last month to shoot a music festival called Listen Up. If you're not familiar with Kahoka, it's the farthest northeastern point you can go to in Missouri, and it also happens to be my hometown. Anyway, the music was great, and it was a really diverse group of bands. Plus, I got to do some really cool video coverage with a combination of HD, SD, and Super 8 cameras. Yes, I mean Super 8, as in the home movie format introduced in 1965. Should make for an interesting concert film....

Above is a shot of Derek and I during a filming break. We represented about 1/3 of the film crew, so an additional shout-out goes to Cody, Dave, Chris, and Buck for helping me document the event. The concert film is next on my editing docket, so stay tuned for some video highlights from the night...

Latest Wedding Shoot!

I've been busy finishing up a couple projects, so I'm just now getting a chance to update the blog with a couple stills from my last wedding shoot. It was a beautiful Columbia wedding that started at First Presbyterian Church downtown and later moved to Holiday Inn for the reception and dance. The Holiday Inn staff did a fabulous job decking out the ballroom, and I got a chance to work with a couple great wedding vendors for the first time, Bill with Music Express DJ Service and Lindell with Rambling Creek Images. I had a great wedding shoot last weekend that started at the beautiful Winston Churchill Memorial in Fulton and ended on the banks of the Missouri River, courtesy of Les Bourgeois Winery. Katy and Mark were a great couple to work with, and I got a chance to work with some great wedding vendors as well! Taking care of the photography for the day was Jennifer from Moonshadow Studios here in Columbia, MO. Check out some more of her great work over at her website, www.moonshadowstudio.com. Headed to Northeast Missouri last week to visit with family over Easter. I didn't have any of my higher quality cameras with me on the trip, but I came across some great photo opportunities that I couldn't pass up, so I grabbed my cheap, low resolution "point and shoot" and snapped a few shots. This was all totally verite' style, no lighting or placement or anything, but I thought some of the shots turned out visually pretty interesting. Rural Missouri on Easter Sunday, 2010....Hope you enjoy.

Great Wedding Directories

Typically, from January to March is the busiest time for wedding planning. Since we're right smack-dab in the middle of this time frame, thought it might be helpful if I shared some great wedding directories that can really speed up the planning process for prospective brides and grooms. Here's one of my latest videos, shot and produced in December 2009. What I'm calling it is a Pure.Wedding.Cinema Engagement Session. Kind of a mouthful, I know, but I'm really happy with how it turned out. (Definitely one of my favorite videos I've produced over the years). It was shot on location at the Tiger Hotel in downtown Columbia and at "The Quad" on the University of Missouri campus. Obviously, both are really classy locations and added a nice backdrop to the video. Anyway, thanks for watching, and thanks to Adam & Justine. You guys were great to work with!

Pure.Wedding.Cinema.

Last weekend, I took advantage of some great weather and headed to downtown Columbia for a video shoot. Along for the ride were Adam & Justine, a really fun couple who I worked with a couple months ago at their wedding in Salisbury. A new package that I'm offering is a "Pure.Wedding.Cinema" package, which includes an extra video shoot either before or after the wedding day. (Think of it like an engagement session for video). Anyway, these sessions are really conducive to getting those EXTRA special detailed shots that are often hard to get during the hectic and busy wedding day. First we headed to the Tiger Hotel and then to the Quad on the MU campus. (Thanks to the folks at Bleu for giving us access to the beautiful lobby at the Tiger!) The editing is underway; look for the video soon!

The Magic of Cinema

This clip was dug out of my Mini DV vaults recently, and I couldn't resist posting it. It goes all the way back to the very early days of my video production education....circa about 2003. (I believe it was shot when I was a junior here at MU in the Communications Department). Anyway, the assignment was simple: shoot 30 seconds of anything, completely unedited. Still undecided on what to shoot, I was killing time at the local record store and stumbled upon this gem in the one dollar bin. Obviously I knew I had to have it, so one dollar later, I was the proud owner. In a flash of inspiration, I rushed back to my apartment, and my guerrilla video was complete. The planets aligned just right and this magical piece of cinema was created. Move over, Godard....there's a new kid in town! Ladies and gentleman, I give you: The Real Vincent Vega...

Well, that was enlightening wasn't it? To finish the story, the professor was not nearly as pleased with the video as I was. I think I ended up with a B...but the memories more than made up for the lower grade. Anyway, thought everyone might get a laugh out of the short. I had a bit of down time last weekend between the ceremony and reception, so I grabbed a couple shots of the beautiful stained glass from the church in Salisbury. Listen Up!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I've been involved in a small music festival in NE Missouri called Listen Up for several years now. A few weeks ago was the 11th annual show so I packed up my camera and my guitar and headed up. Haven't started editing any of the video footage from this year's show yet, but thought I would post a couple pics from the 2007 show. These particular shots were taken by English Teacher/Amateur Photographer Greg Wirsig, and I thought they captured the essense of the show quite well. Hitting The Trail...

I had this morning off and the weather was just perfect, so I pulled myself away from the computer and headed out with my two-year old son to Bear Creek Trail in north Columbia. We made it about 2 miles, but got hung up at a bridge crossing over the creek. I guess there comes a time in every boy's life when he realizes that there's nothing more fun than throwing rocks off of a bridge into water, but I did manage to pull him away long enough to take a quick shot.

Look for a video update soon....A couple weeks ago, I packed up the camera and the guitar and headed up to a small music festival in Kahoka, MO. Got some pretty good footage of the event, so I'll post a few stills in the near future. Until then....

Editing Break.

Thought I would pull myself away from the editing suite for a second and finally check back in with the blog. For any of you out there who have spent some time editing video, you know that the words "time-consuming" don't quite do it justice. But on the flip side, it's really a great feeling when you finally get to sit back and watch as all of the elements you've created come together into something cohesive and cool....that's the idea, anyway....Will definitely try and post some new video highlights soon. Finished Byron & Tammra's wedding video last night; the official "premiere" will be taking place this Saturday. The couple had a small outdoor ceremony a few weeks ago, so I threw the footage together in time for them to be able to show all their family and friends this weekend at their reception. June Wedding Highlights

In the early stages of editing a wedding I shot two weeks ago, so thought I would take a second and add some highlight shots I pulled from the video. These guys were such a fun couple to work with and I think it really shows in the video. (Gotta love the party bus!) A definite highlight for me was a particular shot I got of the groomsmen walking down the street before the ceremony....ala Reservoir Dogs. Great idea, Jared! Last weekend, I headed to scenic Hartsburg, MO for an outdoor wedding. When I was talking with the couple, they mentioned that I would have to "drive through a pasture" to get to their wedding site, and they definitely were not joking! Super secluded, very unique, and an absolute spectacular view. During the ceremony, the couple stood on a hillside overlooking the small town. You could literally see for miles. To Byron & Tammra, I hope the scenery was just as beautiful in Jamaica! Anyway, I pulled a couple stills out of the video to share with everybody on the blog. Enjoy the view!

Graduation Time.

Well, that time of year is upon us again....the time of year that involves tears, tassels, and of course, hearing the Green Day song "Time of Your Life" at least 4 times. Of course, I'm talking about graduation, the end of one chapter and the start of another. Definitely a momentous day in the life of a student, so we were happy to capture two ceremonies this month. (Should make for some great viewing in a couple decades!...) Anyway, here's a pic of my main second shooter helping me prepare for our graduation shoot at Christian Chapel Academy here in Columbia. Wanted to check back in with the blog after coming home from a conference last week in Pennsylvania at the CF Martin Guitar HQ. I'll try to post some pictures soon from the trip. For someone with an interest in vintage guitars, the museum had some great pre-war guitars that I hopefully got some good shots of. Anyway, busy video week this week with a school graduation shoot tomorrow and a wedding shoot on Saturday downtown at the Tiger Hotel. (Definitely one of Columbia's best wedding reception venues; I'm looking forward to it.) Keep checking back with the blog and the website, video and pics to come soon!

New Wedding Promo!

I had a bit of free time this week, so I took a couple weddings that I've shot in the past and edited together a new wedding promo. I thought it turned out really nice. Take note of the song playing in the background; it's a little known track recorded in about 2002. It's by a band called "effect" that happens to feature myself and some good friends of mine. Just got back from shooting a concert put on by the kids of Christian Chapel Academy. Tonight was their spring concert, and they had some really great songs prepared. Also, if you've never seen CCA's auditorium, it's quite impressive! Top of the line sound, light, and staging. Assisting me tonight was my good friend and fellow videographer, Peter Riney. No new video this week, but wanted to update the blog, so I thought I would post a new picture taken recently. I met up with a couple of my oldest friends in downtown Glasgow, MO on the banks of the Missouri River. We didn't know the picture was being taken, but I still liked how it turned out. As you can see, we're standing in front of the local "watering hole", the Fish Beak Saloon. Gotta love small towns! Hmm....for some reason, I think I hear a John Mellencamp song playing in the distance...More video news to come soon...

Just wanted to take a second and post some of my latest work here on the blog. These are some highlights I put together from a wedding I recently finished editing. These guys were a really fun couple to work with and I thought the whole night turned out great! I loved the bride's dramatic entrance, and definitely had some fun editing it. Finally got the website published tonight. There are still some minor things that need finished, but I'm getting there. Check out this picture I stumbled across while designing the new site. It's actually a sign for an old motel in my hometown of Kahoka, MO. I captured the image a couple years ago while working on a documentary. I'd forgotten about it, but I really love the way it turned out. Hope everyone enjoys the new site!
